New Jersey Nets power forward Troy Murphy ranks highly on the list of most disappointing players this season. Murphy, whose average draft position was around #50, has barely been able to get on the court and isn't even rated within our top 300. Since returning from an injury that cost him 11 games, Troy has been little more than an eighth man for the Nets. His poor start to the season culminated with a DNP tonight.
The Breakdown
The fact is head coach Avery Johnson has been impressed with the strong play of Kris Humphries and is giving rookie Derrick Favors minutes so that can gain some much needed experience. For the season, Murphy isn't even seeing 20 minutes a game. He played over 30 minutes in his last two seasons with Indiana.
For some reason, over 55% of fantasy owners are still clinging to some hope that Murphy returns to the form we anticipated in the preseason. It's looking like only an injury or a trade will allow Murphy's value to increase. In standard leagues, it's time to cut him loose. Deep leaguers with no decent options in their free agent pool may still want to hang onto him and cross their fingers.
