A few years back, a good friend sent me a stack of records which included Lowrell's "Mellow, Mellow Right On". It's a dope slow jam which was recorded in Chicago in 1979. Maybe not coincidentally then, it was sampled by Common on "Reminding Me (Of Sef)" on his ONE DAY IT'LL ALL MAKE SENSE album. It was also sampled by Massive Attack on BLUE LINES', "Lately".
Wondering where a sample came from? Check out: http://www.whosampled.com Cool site "exploring and discussing the DNA of music". They post the the sample(s) for songs and the originals.
