The G(m) Spot: Lakers Sign Walton

The Deal: Luke Walton agrees to a 6 year, $30 million contract with the Lakers.

For the Lakers: Although some may have questioned Mitch Kupchak's moves in the past, this deal was a complete no brainer for both sides. Walton was third on the Lakers last year in both points and assists, and his skill set is a perfect fit for Phil Jackson's triangle offense. The Lakers could not afford to lose his passing ability in the offense, especially considering the complete mess the team has at the point. For Walton this deal also makes a lot of sense, since it was unlikely that his talents would have been worth the full mid level exception from another team. Walton is now settled in as the Lakers' starter at SF for the foreseeable future, an important bit of stability for the Lakers in the midst of their tumultuous offseason.
