The injury to Gilbert Arenas shifted Al Thornton into the Washington Wizards starting line up and he has made the most of the opportunity. Thornton has begun the season with averages of 15.2 points and 6.4 rebounds on 54.1% shooting.
The Breakdown
Thornton really has the hot hand. His field goal percentage is nearly 10% higher than his career average. Al is certainly worth a speculative add in standard leagues and should be picked up immediately in deeper formats.
Right now, the Wizards are using Arenas off the bench. If Arenas is moved back into the starting line up, it could be Kirk Hinrich, not Thornton, that goes to a bench role. We will have to monitor what head coach Flip Saunders decides to do with the line up, but even in a sixth man role Thornton would still be in line for 25+ minutes a night.
