The World Series of Poker has exploded in popularity over the past five years. With such popularity comes one sure thing; bandwagon jumpers. Which is precisely why the main event at the WSOP has been flooded with thousands of entrants since the event first began being televised. You can now add Maxime Talbot to the long list of poker hopefuls that will be at the main event next month. Who is Maxime Talbot you ask? He just happens to be a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he has won an entry to play at the WSOP. The best part of this is that Maxime is no star in the NHL, and is making near the league minimum. So it really wouldn't unreasonable for Talbot, with a few lucky cards, to win more money at the WSOP than he will make with the Penguins this upcoming season. So does he have a chance? Actually, Talbot is an accomplished poker player. Last year Talbot won a made-for-TV tournament for members of the NHL players union, beating out Los Angeles Kings forward Michael Cammalieri in the final.
I mean, anyone who can take down Michael Cammalieri head to head must be a great poker player right?
