If you are a regular reader of this blog, you may have noticed that it has been a long time since I wrote a "Your Milwaukee Apocalypse" entry. Well, there is a simple reason for that, and it is that I have been vainly waiting for someone in the black hole that is the NL Central to catch up with the Brewers. And everyday I would get my hopes up when I saw a Brewer's loss, as since the last post the Brew Crew has gone a mere 6-8. Much to my chagrin, and the hopes of humanity, the Brewers have somehow managed to gain half a game in the standings over that period of time. Is there truly no hope of stopping this freight train of destruction?
Until last night I might have said yes, but last night something wonderful happened.
Justin Verlander tossed the best game of the year, no hitting the Brew Crew and striking out 12 in the process. One can only hope that this terrible performance by the Brewers is a sort of karmic fuel for the rest of the division, and that someone (Pujols? Soriano? Lee? Snell?) will rise to occassion and take the Central crown from Milwaukee.
There are other signs of hope as well, mainly the fact that the Brewers have shown themselves to be a terrible road team. How terrible? Well, their 12-18 road record stands as the worst road record of any team in baseball with a winning record, and is in fact the 6th worst road record in all of baseball. Even more good news: Milwaukee has their next five games on the road, two against the Tigers and then three against the Twins. Since the Brewers are currently 34-30, this road trip could very well end with the Brewers dippng below .500. The sad thing is though, they would still be leading the division even if that happened. One can only hope there will be a stop to this evil reign someday soon.
